JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Officers  take office following the annual conference

All reports and documents from out-going officers and committee chairs should be transferred by the Ohio ACTE Empowerment meeting

 

All officers and committee chairpersons are encouraged to attend the OATFACS Annual Conference, Ohio ACTE Empowerment meeting and Ohio ACTE Annual conference

PRESIDENT:

  • Serves for 1 year
  • Presides at all meeting of the Association
  • Serve on the Budget Committee
  • Serve on the Conference Planning Committee
  • Appoints chairperson to each standing committee and any ad hoc committee
  • Appoints delegates to Ohio ACTE Delegate Assembly
  • Appoints delegates to ACTE Delegate Assembly
  • Attend the Ohio ACTE Board of Directors meeting and conference
  • Attends ACTE conference and participate in state contact meeting
  • Represent the Association to the Ohio ACTE Nominating Committee
  • Serve as delegate to the ACTE
  • Attends Ohio ACTE Empowerment
  • Approves contracts on behalf of the Association
  • Other duties as determined by the Board

PRESIDENT-elect:

  • Serves for 1 year
  • Assumes the duties of the president in his/her absence or if office is vacated
  • Assists the president on Association responsibilities
  • Serves on the Conference Planning Committee as Co-Chair
  • Serves on the Nominating Committee
  • May act as delegate to the ACTE Delegate Assembly
  • Attends Ohio ACTE conference
  • Attends Ohio ACTE Empowerment
  • Attends ACTE conference
  • Other duties as determined by the Board

Secretary:

  • Serves for 2 years
  • Keeps official  record of all business of the Association including minutes of the general and executive meetings
  • Posts minutes to the official OATFACS website
  • Handles all correspondence of the Association
  • Serves on the Conference Planning Committee
  • Other duties as determined by the Board

Treasurer:

  • Serves for 2 years
  • Keeps official record of all Association moneys
  • Provides an updated written financial statement/report for all Executive Board meetings
  • Makes disbursements of moneys in accordance with the approved budget
  • Pays NATFACS dues prior to November 1
  • Submits the fiscal records for audit prior to leaving office
  • Serves as chair of the Budget Committee
  • Serves on the Conference and Planning Committee
  • Other duties as determined by the Board

Immediate Past
President:

  • Serves 1 year
  • Acts as resource person for current president
  • Serves on the Executive Board
  • Serves as chair of the Nominating Committee
  • Serves as chair of the Awards Committee
  • Other duties as determined by the Board

Committee Chair:

  • Appoints committee members
  • Establishes committee budget and seeks approval from the Budget Committee
  • Files a Committee Report at each Executive Board meeting and an
  • Annual Report at the end of the year
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Committees
AWARDS:
  • Recognize businesses and other organizations and/or their representatives for interest and concern for Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Recognize individuals on government for interest and concern for Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Recognize OATFACS members through nominations for NATFACS and Ohio ACTE awards as described through those guidelines Honor retiring officers Honor members retiring from the teaching profession
  • Encourage involvement in the Association through recognitions
  • Send letters of notification to award recipients
  • Plan award presentation for annual conference
  • Order and prepare appropriate award items for presentation
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Budget:
  • Prepares budget for the current year and presents for approval to the
  • Executive Board by Ohio ACTE Empowerment
  • Approves all expenditures from the Board, committees or others
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Constitution and Bylaws:
  • Reviews constitution annually for potential changes
  • Updates Policies and Procedures following each action taken by the
  • Executive Board
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Legislation:
  • Inform teacher of impending legislation with concise suggestions for appropriate course of action
  • Work with legislative network developed by ACTE
  • Sustain the efforts of the Family and consumer Sciences Education
  • Division to cooperate with AAFCS, FCSEA, and state organizations in the unified promotion of Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Inform FCS teachers on matters concerning federal, and state legislation with suggestions for an action plan
  • Urge ALL members to become more politically informed and pro-active
  • Maintain quarterly contact with state and national legislative members to     promote FCS
  • Assist Awards committee in identifying potential recipients for legislative awards
  • Attend January legislative seminar sponsored by Ohio ACTE
  • Send representative to serve as Division Representative to Ohio ACTE legislative luncheon in April
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Membership:
  • Maintain and increase membership in ACTE, Ohio ACTE, NATFACS and OATFACS through recruitment of new members and retention of current members
  • Work with Ohio ACTE to maintain membership contact electronically
  • Increase involvement of members
  • Promote OATFACS membership/involvement in NATFACS
  • Create and provide membership brochures and promotions
  • Contact all Ohio university and college teacher education departments to inform students of membership benefits
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
  • Prepares slate of OATFACS officer nominees for elections
  • Prepares necessary materials for elections held at annual meeting (such as ballots, ballot box, pencils or other voting devices)
  • Counts votes and presents results to members attending meeting
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Nominating:
Professional Development:
  • Work for the improvement of Family and Consumer Sciences programs to include:

             a. Relevancy of program: priority family issues, current content, diverse populations

             b. Leadership development through integration of FCCLA activities

             c. Increase accountability for developing basic skills, thinking skills, and personal qualities in students

             d. Increase accountability for teaching students to use resources, work with others, acquire and use information, 
                 understand systems and use technology

             e. Promote program teaching methods  that are based on current educational research and best practices

  • Work with other professional organizations, educational groups and business and industry to promote Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Plans and organizes all aspects of annual conference Plans and organizes fall and spring professional development meetings or regular FCS teachers and those in specialized areas
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
  • Foster the importance of networking and good public relations to promote Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Recognize those who have made outstanding professional contributions to Family and Consumer Sciences education
  • Provide news releases for local newspapers of award recipients
  • Provide news release form for annual conference participants
  • Submit notice of award recipients to OATFACS website
  • Set up and display promotional table and materials at OAFCS conference and OATFACS annual conference
  • Develop ideas for FCS program marketing for member use
  • Write letters of appreciation to administrators for the encouragement and support given to OATFACS officers, committee chairpersons and members attending OATFACS, Ohio ACTE and ACTE conferences
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
Public Relations:
Resolutions:
  • Works with Ohio ACTE per established guidelines
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
  • Provides state updates at all meetings and professional development sessions
  • Serves in a consulting role to the Executive Board
  • Supports professional development opportunities as determined by Executive Board
  • Serves on the Budget Committee
  • Serves on Conference Planning Committee
  • Other duties as determined by the Board
